I have a second-hand (so out of warranty) Holmes humidifier, one of the Cool Mist ultrasonic models. A couple of weeks ago I let it run dry accidentally, and since then it barely produces any vapor.

Points of note:
- The fan is OK.
- The transducer (metal plate that vibrates to produce the vapor) is definitely running but it's just far too weak. I can see the water 'jumping' when I lift the reservoir off the base, but the vapor is so little it's barely visible. Before this happened, I could see lots of vapor even on the low setting.
- I cleaned all the scale off the transducer and water level sensor with vinegar and a soft toothbrush but it didn't help.

Help troubleshoot please?
